Examen Prayer with Kids pt 1

After a short introduction of the Examen Prayer, let's hop into the "Yes, and" of the Examen with kids, but not for the sake of prosperity! The only thing more fun than listening and learning in prayer on our own is listening and learning with our kids; most of the time, kids demonstrate an innate capability of prayer if we are open to learning from them. Yet, there they are waiting for leadership as if we know the way. So, here we go.

Become aware of God's Presence.
DO's List

Get still (ha!)
FIRST, have your kids get super wiggly with jumping jacks, somersaults, take a walk or... use your imagination
Then, get still
Turn off all devices or put them away
put on white noise of some kind
Step 1- Become aware of God's Presence

USE what you have learned from the Contemplative Prayer practices!
You have been practicing the Presence of God, already!!
Still the eyes on one spot or, better yet, close them entirely
Focus on a touch from the hair on your neck or the air around your ears
Hear sound from outside
Now, you can add scripture references to the Presence of God-
Exodus 3:2, Deuteronomy 5:24, 1 Kings 8:57, Ephesians 2:4-5
These are starting places, only! What moves you and your own to feel God's Presence?
Stay on this step for 1-3 minutes, only.
Remember, less is more here. Gentle timing with a gentle release of expectation. We are not trying to "do it right."
As the Pray-er, remember to thank God for intervening and taking your child(ren)'s heart(s) into His Eternal Presence.
Step 2 Praise God for His Presence-
What do we do when we have become aware of God's Presence? PRAISE!
