An Invitation to a Prayer Journey

Traveling the Neighborhood Homes of the Examen 

​Pray-er with An Examination of Conscience

  • Examen Steps or Homes in the Examen Prayer

    • Become aware of God's Presence​

      • Praise​

    • In Grace of His Presence- Reflect on past day

      • Observe Connection to Him​ during day

      • Disconnection or Distraction during the day

      • Respond in God's Presence

    • Look ahead to the events upcoming

      • About what are you excited or hesitant?

      • What does God say to you regarding these things?​

Primum Class Lay-out

Embedded Examen

  • Greeting 

  • Beginning work of Examen

    • Based on the student ages, we will work towards the mastery of the Examen Prayer (see steps above)

      • The repetition  or "visiting the homes of the Examen" over and over provides learning experiences for these Pray-ers ​

        • Students understand what to expect and anticipate the next steps. In doing this, they will be able to perform the Examination of Conscience on their own, internally, over time. ​

  • Story- Students sign-up with parent or on their own to read a story. Then, teacher led activities as follows.

    • Retelling the story as a group​

    • Reflect on story based on structure of Examen reviewed during opening of class

      • Presence of God in the story?​ Or while listening? 

        • Hone identification of Truth, Beauty, Goodness​

      • Connection or disconnection to God in the story?

      • Looking ahead and anticipating?

        • Putting yourself into the shoes of the characters and submitting to their circumstance with your discernment​
  • Closing Prayer (Student and Parent or Teacher led)​

Ages 5-7

Setting Pray-ers to Prayer

  • Begin learning Examen steps 

    • ​Students exposed to repetition without expectation of mastery.

  • Story Presenter - Present a story or portion of story to class with parent or independently

    • Build confidence in reading aloud as presenter or attentive listening when in audience​

  • Retelling the story

    • submit to the story as a class and re-tell it​

    • apply Examen steps to areas of the story where you see connections

      • We can use imagination to combine concepts of the story with the Examen steps​

        • Where will the discussion lead us?​

Primum 

Ages 8-10

Pray-ers Of 

TheArt of Prayer

  • Begin learning Examen steps with opportunities to have student led sessions of each step.

    • Repetition is its own teacher​

  • Story Presenter - Present to class a section of a larger story you enjoy or a storybook

    • Build confidence in reading aloud as presenter or attentive listening when in audience​

  • Retelling the story

    • submit to the story as a class and re-tell it

      • Hone discernment while submitting to circumstances of the story​

        • Where will the discussion lead us?​
